Voter suppression in Arizona

Something has been eating at me since last week:

As a registered independent voter, I have always enjoyed not affiliating my vote or loyalty to either party. And have always used the early voting mail-in option.

So I was surprised to receive a notice/request in the mail on Monday, May 28th basically telling me 'because I am registered independent, in order to continue to receive early voting privileges, I must "tell them what party I wish to vote for".

How weird is that? I was toally pist until I read the rest of the conditions:

I received the notice in the 28th and if the County Recorders office does not receive my reply by the 29th (the very next day) the result would be that I am no longer to receive the early voting, mail in options.

So, I talked to the mail delivery persin when I handed the mail-in reply to him. He told me that there are thousands of them that will not be delivered to the Recorders office in time. The post office is flooded with them.

Because I did not have time to drive downtown and hand deliver the reply to the Recorders office, I am no longer able to early vote.

I gotta tell ya.... the more I think about it...
