Despite being legal, I've been getting more and more attention from police these days. Maybe I'm too casual with when and where I smoke. Regardless, I'd like this to be a thread that we can talk about our MMJ-based interactions with the good people over at TPD and UPD. As a bit of a side note, I get rather wordy when I type. You don't have to do the same.
I'll start with 4am last night. Last night, I was quite medicated while sitting in my dorm room. Just as I was losing the last bit of a buzz, someone knocked (rather loudly) on my door. I made myself presentable and met a University police officer at my door. He told me that some of the RAs had smelled my post-dose musk and asked if he could come inside. I agreed, thinking nothing of it, half-stoned, half-asleep and very surprised. Almost as soon as he entered the room, I started shaking and noticing myself getting short of breath. The officer noticed and was even more interested in the smell now. I quickly handed him my medical ID and was promptly lectured about university policy not allowing the possession and application of mmj on campus. I told him I understood, but was rarely hassled. He then warned me that if UPD came back to my dorm, they would search the room, my possessions and myself. And if they discovered even a personal amount, I would be reported to the Dean and possibly evicted or expelled. I was still visibly shaken up by this, a state I blame solely on sleep deprivation and marijuana-based paranoia. But in the end, the officer was nice enough to let me off with a warning and the worry was nothing a couple hits of a joint couldn't fix.
I guess the next logical step in this is to ask if I handled this correctly or if I gave up some legal ground by letting him in or something like that.
I never smoke in the dorm, but I'm always coming in and out after smoking joints nearby. Any smell in my dorm is either on me, my clothes or the grinder and joints I sometimes have. Honestly, I have no idea how they smelled me.
I have vaped in dorms but the police do know the popcorn-ish smell. And there are plenty of ways to mask or contain the smell, I just haven't been doing anything because I hadn't been worried before now.
