Well, this holiday weekend didn't go as expected. Its not often that I get meds in large quantities (especially since work hasn't been very reliable these past few months). Well, this weekend I came accross some extra cash and decided to get an oz. Something that would last me a while since I didn't know when I would have some extra money again. I had planned a trip up to mt lemmon to go shooting for a while and have a cook-out. My buddy was only available on Sunday since we was going out of town for a week and since he lives far NE I decided to save a trip and pick up my meds and head up to mt lemmon since it was in the same side of town.
I had seen people shooting at some spot 1/2 way up mt lemon before, and had even stopped there a few times myself. We weren't even there for 10 minutes when some forest rangers pulled up. We noticed them looking in our car windows, then they said shooting was no longer allowed at this location, and asked us for ID's. One of them then says "I smell marijuana, do you have drugs on you?" However, I had not smoked yet. The only reason they asked is because they seen some rolling papers in the dash. Well they threathened that if I was lying that they would confiscate my gun, give me a ticket for shooting (there were no signs) and possibly arrest me if I didn't let them search my car. I admitted to them that I had an oz in the car and showed them my card. After they looked at my card they said I was on Federal Land and that it was an even bigger felony if I was lying and asked to search my car again. I didn't want to cause any problems, so I told them again that all I had was an oz and they were more than welcome to check if they wanted. Well, they checked our car, sure enough found the oz, took a picture of it (coincidently they took a picture of the oz next to my bullets) placed the oz in an "evidence" bag and told us to wait there. We waited about 20 minutes and one of the forrest rangers comes back and says he is going to give me a warning on my gun, but that my mmj card was no good in mount lemon because again it was federal land. Even though we weren't smoking, they gave me a $300 ticket, kept my oz and sent me on my way. Damn ****ers ruined my whole weekend.
honestly kev your lucky you got off so easy.they could have easily took your guns and possibly alot worse.i love to shoot but i know when i go to never bring more than a couple doobs like danko said.you brought an oz on federal land haha come on dude!but seriously you sound like my kinda guy,just be more careful next time.hopefully that ticket that you got is just a straight fine.pm if you ever wanna go target shooting
lol! i know it was pretty stupid, i was mad at myself for doing that. but I didn't think anything of it. I had just gotten my meds and since it was on the same side of town decided to go to mt lemon. Now I know.
Didn't know about that. To many badges & tourist on Lemon for me , we always go to Redington. When out of town folk come to visit, we take'em up to elevation marker 3506 to view the city.
