My question is when do you decide it's time to start flushing?
I realize there is probably not an exact answer to this question because there are probably countless variables to take into consideration. My first thought is you have to start a little before you actually want to harvest so say 7 - 10 days of flushing. For instance if I'm trying to shoot for 50/50 (cloudy, amber) would it be safe to start flushing as soon as I start to see the smallest amount of amber? Or do you get a feel for how fast they are turning amber and make a judgement based off that? Perhaps it's impossible to answer this question so maybe people can explain how they go about deciding when to start flushing.
After posting this I started looking at posts on flushing and when to start flushing. I did't realize that this topic was so controversial, perhaps this just demonstrates how much of a greenhorn I am.
So it seems there there are people that claim flushing isn't needed at all. Some say you should reduce the amount you feed down to 25%, some say the taste is the same whether they flushed or not. So again the internet is great place to research but sometimes I come away with more questions than when I started...
IMO flushing is needed for sure. as to just how and when to do it, I would sugest you find a someone who produces the quality and taste that you like and ask him or her what they do
Yes that is a good idea. At this point I think I'm just going to use my judgement on when to start flushing based on fast I'm seeing amber appear. After reading some of these threads most of them are quite subjective so the answer is probably very hard to come by since one way will probably never fit 100% of all grows. If after this first harvest I'm not happy with my results I'll mix it up a little on the next grow or for hell of it maybe I'll just mix it up on the next grow anyways :)
