A new Day - Sensory Gating

A New Day

Good morning TMMJ. I am just coming off a two week fast with PBK. Mellow, cerebral, joyful. When I began using medical marijuana a few years ago I had no idea it was going to work so well. Sensory gates are an aperture of our consciousness.

“Look! Here he comes, leaping across the mountains, bounding over the hills”.

Just back from an hour before sun-up walk, remembered lines from the Song Of Wisdom

Its awesome to walk in Tucson as dawn overcomes the night

Darkness and light are defined by mountain and sky.

Dark mountains like jaws raging against the light,

fade into mountain, trees, houses and people

waking up all over the place. We are the darkness. We are light.

Everywhere I turn another peak whose name I want to know.

I read in the news that THC levels increase 15% with exercise.

I medicate before I walk now.

Two years ago it was difficult to lift my leg up high enough to put on my pants.

And each full stride came at a cost.

Chilling memories of another world.

And each full stride springs joyful, bounding free.

Two years of therapy for a deep autoimmune control.

Two years to pacify body at war with self.

Two years of side effects, euphoria, the sense of well being,

the warm Rubenesque glow with-in.

This is what old age was meant to be.

To have Medical Marijuana in my “old age” is an extraordinary grace.

Sensory gating is the pre-conscious process of filtering perceptions for relevance, security and self interest, as it is conveyed to consciousness. An eye pupil is a good image, an aperture of consciousness, light of our being, all that is, all that we are or can be. Sensory gating constricts our vision like blinders on a horse, keeps us on track, on task, out of danger. A 15% filtrate leaves us in a world of 85% darkness. We ”see through a glass darkly”, with “eyes that do not see and ears that do not hear”.

Marijuana eases the constriction, lets the aperture dilate like the pupil of an eye for a broader view. The endocannabinoid system is biologically preconditioned to encourage with euphoria the conscious control and opening up of our sensory gates. We are meant to get high. We have evolved with a biological predisposition to experience the intense joy and mystery of the cannabis high as it instills in us a feeling of wellbeing, universal love, peace, the awareness of the brotherhood of man, increasing our level of consciousness, our wisdom, and our humanity. Marijuana is our Manifest Destiny.
